Physiotherapy
From graduates to experienced physiotherapists, we offer diverse career opportunities.
GV Health employs a large team of physiotherapists at various stages of their careers, supported by an experienced group of senior physiotherapists and managers who mentor and assist new staff in growing and developing their roles.
Physiotherapists at GV Health provide high-quality care to a diverse patient population across hospital, subacute, outpatient and community-based settings. Many physiotherapists are based in the physiotherapy department, whilst others are integral members of a range of multidisciplinary teams. We are a close-knit group and take pride in welcoming new team members to Shepparton and the wider health care team.
Junior physiotherapists are based in the physiotherapy department and participate in the grade 1 rotational program. This is a great opportunity for physiotherapists beginning their career to gain exposure across all areas of physiotherapy with 4-monthly rotations across all inpatient areas, outpatient rehabilitation and some community programs. This includes a robust supervision program, probation meetings and support with your manager and professional development opportunities.
Physiotherapists are also supported to progress their career into a range of specialised or advanced practice roles including Advanced Musculoskeletal, Osteoarthritis Hip and Knee clinics, paediatrics, ICU, women’s health and vestibular.
Our areas of Physiotherapy practice
Physiotherapists at GV Health provide care across acute wards including medical, respiratory, surgical, critical care, paediatrics, maternity & the emergency department.
Their role may include:
- Improving function post orthopaedic & general surgery and preventing complications
- Assessment & acute rehabilitation following critical illness or stroke
- Falls assessments and providing education/interventions to prevent falls
- Chest Physiotherapy for those with acute respiratory problems
- Assisting the multi-disciplinary team with complex discharge planning to ensure patient-centred care
Physiotherapists can also work in the Emergency Department (ED) as Advanced Musculoskeletal physiotherapists, who work in an advanced scope role.
Physiotherapists also play a role in improvement projects and other organisation-wide initiatives such as stroke & falls committees, patient flow improvement initiatives and communicating with the wider Hume Region Hospitals.
The subacute physiotherapy team at GV Health supports a diverse range of patients across rehabilitation, geriatric evaluation & management (GEM), and palliative care. This also includes home-based rehabilitation such as the MCU@Home program.
Their rehabilitation cohorts may include stroke, other complex neurological patients, general reconditioning, amputees and multi-trauma patients (including those transferred from Melbourne Tertiary Centres). Working alongside specialist geriatricians, they manage progressive neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease. They assist the rehabilitation ward in a liaison role with some patients to ensure good communication between the MDT, patients, families & carers.
Physiotherapists play a key role in the MDT with discharge planning, assisting patients to develop and achieve their goals such as returning home or returning to the community. These goals may also continue into other services such as Transition Care Program (TCP) and Community Rehabilitation (CRC).
